Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to take charge as acting CJP on April 21

Senior puisne judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will take oath as acting chief justice of Pakistan on Monday (April 21).

The oath will be administered by Justice Muneeb Akhtar, as the current Chief Justice, Yahya Afridi, is going on a foreign visit. Senior lawyers and Supreme Court staff are expected to attend the ceremony.

At the same time, steps are being taken to appoint permanent chief justices in the country’s four high courts. The meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), originally set for May 2, has now been moved to May 19.

During this meeting, the commission will discuss the appointment of permanent chief justices in the Islamabad High Court and other high courts.

Nominations for these positions are being accepted until May 4, and the names of three senior judges will be considered for each appointment.
