Railways announces 20% discount in train fares on Eid ul Fitr
Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced a 20% reduction in train fares for Eid ul Fitr to encourage rail travel and facilitate passengers during the festive period.
As per an official notification issued on Saturday, the discounted fares will apply to all mail, express, and intercity trains for the first three days of Eid.
Passengers who book tickets in advance will also be eligible for the discount, though it will not be applicable to Eid Special Trains. PR has instructed all booking offices to strictly implement the fare reduction to ensure maximum benefit for passengers.
The initiative aims to provide financial relief and convenience to those traveling to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families.
Earlier this week, the federal government announced a three-day public holiday for Eid, from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees, will meet on Sunday, March 30, 2025 (Ramazan 29, 1446 AH), to sight the Shawwal moon and confirm the end of Ramadan. The meeting will be held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, where religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other stakeholders will assess moon sighting reports from across the country.
The sighting of the new moon determines key Islamic dates, including the start of Ramadan, Eid holidays, and the mourning month of Muharram.
